Ubiquitous symbols worldwide communicate quickly. At five years of age and a native speaker of Hungarian and German, with exposure to Polish, French and English (father), I easily acquired English coming to the US as a refugee at age 5. Being artistic, I was attracted to shapes as a way to learn. This had a lasting impact on the artwork that I create. The question mark is a strong, singular, iconic form universally recognized and full of meaning depending on details and circumstances in which it appears. This artwork, composed of apple branches constructed with screws, includes 32 small plastic animals (such as an elephant, frog, cheetah etc.) which I believe will all be extinct within this century.
