We are in the artist’s apartment - and at the same time in the space of painting “outside ourselves.” Sayan Baygaliev's projects lay out interiors on a plane; the rooms are brought together at unusual angles, close to the scenery of post-war expressionist films, and at the same time, the nature of the lines is magnetized to a harsh style. A kind of diorama can be seen as an inviting, hospitable gesture by the artist, letting a stranger into his home world to establish a closer connection. On the other hand, this space is schematized and grandiose: based on the real situation, it embodies Baigaliev’s attitude to pictorial possibilities and effects. The artist gives oil three-dimensional independence in the form of objects that serve as a continuation of the flat image, materialized and calling, also thanks to their bright ornamentation, for (deceptive) interaction. Thus, the illusion of action, optical distortions provide the necessary veil of distance: they transform a personal plot into an unsentimental reflection on spaces, connections and perspectives - in all the meanings of the latter
