Installation: "Sky-Screaming Baggage” Children on the run
Dimensions: 340X67cm
Material: Plastic bags with textile fabric, as a background for photos printed on canvas, which are mounted on it with red decorative stitching.
Suspension: the 6 handles of the bags Description: When I was researching another work, “The Donkey's Shadow,” I came across the images on the Internet: “Children on the Run.” What really surprised me, it may or may not be a coincidence, is that almost all of the children are wearing pink clothes and are waiting, as if parked, next to a mountain of luggage for their journey into the unknown. The blue, white and red checkered plastic bags appeared almost everywhere in the luggage, which gave me the idea of mounting the image material, printed on canvas, on these cut-up carrier bags. Three pockets are cut open in the middle at the bottom and on one narrow side, unfolded and sewn together on the sides, so that 3X2 pocket outside areas are created on which the 6 printed photos are lined up. A kind of “refugee caravan” is created. Inspired by the red decorative seam, which appears several times vertically in parallel on the bags, the canvas pieces are mounted on the bags with this decorative seam (see example image). The photos are cut out of the canvas beforehand, roughly and angularly. The sequence of images attempts to somehow relate the waiting, isolated children to one another. Soldier with small child from front and back with eye contact with the viewer in the middle of the installation, iconographically represents the situation of war and the vulnerability of children. Red remaining threads hang down as a contrast to the handles...
Installation «Himmelschreiendes Gepäck»
Kinder auf der Flucht
Masse: 340X67cm
