Green Eyes 2018 It is an installation made with eyes of
various sizes. Green eyes - like those of the artist herself - they tell of her
gaze on the plasticized world in which we live. They are plastic eyes because
they reflect the reality that surrounds them. They are wide open, as if in
disbelief at what they see, but never closed, they face that reality and look
at us spectators who cannot help but reflect ourselves in them and ask
ourselves a our time what is our reaction to the world we live in today. The
plasticized and plasticizing eye therefore combines denunciation and inner
reflection, both in the works of Serra and in those of SantaSeveso. The plastic
that invades our lives and the environment symbolically takes its place of
nature also in our body, becoming an eye, our main organ of contact with the
outside world. Just as the sea divinity Medusa petrified with her gaze, now it
is the sea itself that has taken on that power. The plastic eye symbolizes the
indifference into which one risks falling. But the gaze of the artists it is
always open. They can not only testify to a critical and dangerous situation,
they also give a breath of hope with their eyes open, which must also be ours,
aware of what is happening and ready to decipher reality to identify a new
attitude towards salvation of the environment and consequently of man himself.
Green Eyes 2018 è un’installazione realizzata con occhi di
varie dimensioni. Gli occhi verdi – come quelli dell’artista stessa –
raccontano il suo sguardo sul mondo
plastificato in cui viviamo. Sono occhi di plastica perché riflettono la
realtà che li circonda. Sono spalancati, come
increduli davanti a ciò che vedono, ma mai chiusi, affrontano
quella realtà e guardano noi spettatori che
non possiamo fare a meno di specchiarci in loro e chiederci a
nostra volta quale è la nostra reazione al
mondo in cui viviamo oggi.
L’occhio plastificato e plastificante unisce
quindi denuncia e riflessione interiore, sia nei lavori di Serra che
in quelli di SantaSeveso. La plastica che
invade le nostre vite e l’ambiente, simbolicamente prende il posto
della natura anche nel nostro corpo, facendosi
occhio, il nostro principale organo di contatto con l’esterno.
Così come la divinità marina Medusa
pietrificava con lo sguardo, ora è il mare stesso che ha assunto quel
potere. L’occhio di plastica simboleggia
l’indifferenza in cui si rischia di cadere. Ma lo sguardo delle artiste
è sempre aperto. Esse non possono solo
testimoniare una situazione critica e pericolosa, danno anche un
respiro di speranza con i loro occhi aperti,
che devono anche essere i nostri, consapevoli di quello che sta
accadendo e pronti a decifrare la realtà per
identificare un nuovo atteggiamento, verso la salvezza
dell’ambiente e di conseguenza dell’uomo
stesso.
