If you press against an egg’s longitudinal axis, it's very difficult to break. So much so that for a normal chicken egg, 20 to 23kg of pressure is needed to crack the shell; extremely durable, yet fragile enough for a bird to break free when ready to hatch. There is a beautiful balance to nature’s design. In this work of art, the inspiration comes from our natural world, with the awareness of the fact that being human is also realizing one’s impact on our surroundings. Earth is adaptable, it has many ways to redistribute the pressure our species puts on it. But one cannot ignore his or her impact forever. Too much pressure will result in an irreparable crack.
The hand is cast bronze, cold to touch. Before the casting process, the form of the hand was created in a plasticine model. A strip of black atmospheric marble serves as the backdrop for the hand. The globe comes from applewood, which is quite dense, and can burn easily if overworked while machining. Otherwise, applewood is beautifully colorful, aromatic, and flexible with care. The artist chose a fire technique for etching the globes details on its surface.
