● Expression Technique
The embroidery work uses the traditional quilting technique with dyed thread. The fabric manifests a plane surface with a three-dimensional effect upon the repulsion of cotton threads. The body of works manifests distinction from conventionally dyed thread embroidery that ostensibly represents the painting work on a flat surface. The works embrace the sculptural quality with a three-dimensional effect.
● Work Description
Title: Elementariness
This era is defined as a time of surplus. Interpretation of intricate and unfathomable ideas into thoughts and actions is comprehended as virtue and living standards. Nonetheless, everything in the world perhaps associates with simplicity in universal truths. The organization of ants and bees forms and prospers an ethereal and elaborate society based on extremely simple and succinct rules. The theme of the work revolves around the idea of ‘elementariness’ to re-contemplate the value of simplicity. Also, triangles and elements were incorporated as symbols to represent ‘elementariness’.
Triangle is the smallest unit figure that cannot be broken down. A circle is considered as made up of an infinite number of triangles whose bases form an assembly. Triangle satisfies the meaning of element, the most simple substance that cannot be broken down. The element was represented as the shape and the symbol was represented by the smallest unit triangle. The basic line was backstitched in the shape of a triangle to develop a path of dyed thread, and the fabric thread is sawn along the line to create a three-dimensional sculpture. The completed sculptures are converged using the hemstitch technique to produce a bowl, an aggregate of a triangle motif.
The work employs the color of hydrogen and helium, the elements composing 99% of the universe. The spectrum colors of helium and hydrogen, violet, blue-green, blue, red, and orange, were used in the work.
