Eczema is a sculpture that is 3D scanned and printed and produced in 1:1 scale. It is inspired by online make up trends and is exploring the pretty and grotesque.
Eczema is part of the upcoming exhibition Cut the Cake. The exhibition is exploring a surrealist online aesthetic. Major social media platforms have a low tolerance for explicit sexual content at the same time humans minds often wander and sexuality is a big part of many peoples lives. This makes for very strange sexually alluding images, completely stripped from sex which creates a confusing web of semiotics.
This gets even more fuelled by the fact that a form of new surrealism is really effective online. Making content that is confusing and makes people stop for a second to understand the image gets promoted in the age of algorithms.
