Dominique Vine

The Vine sculptures provide an escape into a different world – a surreal netherworld of fun, freedom and adventures. We live in a world of greed and false truths, a place obsessed with economic output, a land where you become obsolete when you have peaked your usefulness.

Living in an environment surrounded by vineyards since the 13th century proved to be the perfect backdrop to grow his own creativity. These century old vines who had seen life and history unfold were now being discarded, burnt to make way for the newer, faster growing higher yielding hybrids.

Rescuing the vines from the fire Rod recognised their figurative shapes and beautiful textures and gave them a second chance – bursting to life. From here he wrote a fictional story of their escape, evolving into semi-human souls – a fun adventure…

The sculptures are created from unearthed vines, oil paints, lime mortar, discarded footwear…
