Displaced Beehives Installation
This installation represents the broken, depleted and displaced beehives of the world. It uses small vitamins vials in beehive shapes with added honey colored glass frits that were kiln formed at 1500F. It’s composed of 15 individual pieces that can be positioned in a great variety of ways. Because of its lack of predictability, these pieces are always an exciting experiment.
Focusing on social responsibilities as well as aesthetic feelings that emerge from her art to her viewers, Lourdes’ energy is devoted to working with glass to recognize its beauty and multidimensional qualities. In her effort to conserve and reuse old material, Lourdes has used (otherwise wasted) bottles, jars, glasses, and vials to develop a sustainable and intriguing new line of work. By adding other materials, like metals, mica, enamels, and wood, she customizes a recycled piece. She hopes to share this environmental art with anyone interested in generating conversations and actions towards restoring the planet. Hopefully, the art will resonate with those who agree and reach an even broader audience that the environment needs help.
Light plays a great impact on the installation and should be greatly evaluated during installation process in order to bring out details and impact visual results.
