having read « the age of darkness », book written by the
philosopher Michel Terestchenko, and at the same time noting that the
Marvel and D.C super-heroes are particularly in fashion on movie
theatre screens, I attempted to represent the deadly conflicts
plunging into mourning our present
and, even more appalling, tried to symbolize the irreparable ravage
we are subjecting our planet to.
characters, for a painter, can give the opportunity to combine on his
work, and with huge contrast, primary and secondary colors. Colors on
my canvas, like in some manierist or Romantic paintings, are
struggling on a black background. My scope is to question human
violence against himself or nature.
personal interest on Manierist and Romantic paintings, combined with
my pop-culture background, brings me to create a hybrid style in
which super-heroes take the same pose as those represented in Art
urban mythology takes place, among other places, in the wreckage of
the American dream. I borrow from the Cinema vocabulary the word «
remake » in order to qualify my quotes. It seems to me more adequate
than « pastiche » which can have a parodic sense while my work
doesn't want to be burlesque.
