Intense colours and voluptuous textures fuel a sense of desire and repulsion. ‘Crimson Tart’ looks both delicious and disgusting. There is a sense of excess bound together with a need for control. Systematic chaos. The ‘in between’ becomes the abject, a space of ambiguity and no distinction. The abject holds powers of fascination as well as horror, and it is here that the work exists.
