‘Coral’ represents the relationship between weakness and self-control. Intense colour and voluptuous textures fuel a sense of desire and repulsion. ‘Coral’ looks both delicious and disgusting. Her appearance is both seductive and repellent, provoking an internal struggle.
The sense of collapse reflects on the turbulent and uncertain times of today, and yet the tightly bound form reflects a need for order. ‘Coral’ exists in between borders, an abject space of ambiguity and enigma. The abject holds powers of fascination as well as horror, and it is here that the work exists.
