CONTEXT My debut work, exhibited in lightboxes at my first group exhibition.
Coca-cola cans were drawn with fungi on porcelain sheets. Like these fungi species, corporate structure and advertisement are ubiquitous in our existence. It frames and invades our intimate world in more ways than we could imagine. The fragility and cracks in the porcelain add to this metaphor. Note how the fungi grow over the cracks, overcoming them by adaptation and continuous transition.
LINK TO PRACTICE My adoration for the fungal ecosystem returns multiple times in this application. They invade every space on earth, which we need to be aware and appreciative of. Thinking about our relationship, or coping mechanism, with such an abundant species helps us to think about our relationship with the 7 billion fellow human beings on this fragile world.
