Bluebell is based on a Blue Ring Octopus. Indigenous to the Pacific and Indian oceans, it typically inhabits coral reefs and tide pools, and is known for changing its colour when distressed. It is considered to be one of the most venomous marine animals. Its venom contains a powerful neurotoxin dangerous to humans, however the octopuses don't typically utilize it unless severely provoked. Blue Ring Octopus is only about 8" (20 cm) long, and is primarily nocturnal. It is not currently listed as threatened, although, like many other marine animals, it is negatively impacted by the coral reef damage and the pollution in the oceans.
