Anima I expresses the feeling of being inescapably linked to the animal world, through our body and our soul. The female form expressed in the tiny breasts seems fragile and almost overwhelmed by the more prominent form of the the animal skull with horns. The thorn-like shape that is used for the nipple and in between the ribs of the torso allude to Anima I as a shield or armor, worn for protection.
The metallic appearance of Anima I, made of glazed stoneware, contrasts strongly with the soft velvet used as support. It underlines the sensual and erotic undertones inherent to this piece.
