All the way home is an ephemeral installation/performance designed to make the spectator think about
their own way home and how it has shaped us through the time.
I believe we are in a
way the result of all what has happened through our lives and now as grownups we
get more focused on banalities and temporary goods than our own selves. ‘All
the way home’ aims to make us think for a little in our own ‘home’ which could
be our husband/wife, children, mum, dad, friends, family, favorite place, it
could be anything as long we identify it and try to ‘get back there’ for a
little so as to get back the energy we
have lost through time.
I was inspired by the fact
of us as entire humanity are making a journey, trying to find our way back home re-discovering
ourselves and find out what we are meant to do in this world. I took elephants
as an example as I look up to their extraordinary determination to cross entire
savannahs following their own way every time they migrate and moreover the companionship they share with the other elephants preserving the species and
manifesting their Support to each other.
This installation is
an invitation for everyone involved to think about their own selves for a
little and remember what makes them feel at home, it could be their
husband/wife, children, parents, friends, pets, places etcetera. I personally think Home is something we carry
wherever we go and we actually share it with the people we interact with when
we share these moments; that’s why this installation is for people to get
involved with it; firstly, by looking at it and thinking about what ‘home’ is
for them and secondly by taking on of the elephants exhibited and take it home
to share a cup of tea with someone they love, someone who reminds them of their
own home, someone who would love to share a moment even if it is with
their own selves (As sometimes that is what we need to remember our Home). Thus
every time we drink a coffee or tea in that elephant will make them think about
our ‘home’ and the journey we came to do to this world.
As it is an
interactive installation, it will be over when the last piece is taken living
the space full of memories and making sure people have remembered their own way
home.
The installation can
vary the size depending on the space assigned.
