This sculpture is about the renewal of the landscape during periods of covid lockdown in Ireland. The patchwork field systems as seen from above and the encroaching seas make our island a very small place in the dormancy set by covid lockdowns. A very fragile space, a land that needs protecting.
I have used dark colours to frame the work, with the ignition of new life at the centre. I have used copper leaf in the centre of the artwork to give extraordinary shades of green and blue. The work is 2m long by 1m high and created by sifting enamel powders on to steel panels which are then fired at 860 degrees Celsius in a large kiln until the enamel glass liquifies and forms a skin on the steel.
