Material: Seven collected autographs / manuscripts relating to the Treaty of Nanking.
Medium : It is composed of several collected autographs who are related to the Treaty of Nanking, including Queen Victoria, Sir William Parker, Sir Henry Pottinger, Henry John Temple the 3rd Viscount Palmerston, Admiral Gordon Bremer, Sir Robert Peel and Thomas Townsend Pears.
Description : I was once a Hong Kong collector, now I don't want it anymore, so I handover it to someone else.
Idea behind : The frames arrangement mimc the outlook of Hong Kong Island map. At the centre of the work is a photo of signing ceremony of Treaty of Nanking which is a celebration of winning and taking over something. When people come close and see the works, it would appear to a normal autograph collection to the audience. Then audience will read the name label of each autograph who write the autograph / manuscript, then he/she will start thinking what this collection is about. Then he/she will read the description and name placard of this collection, he/she will read the work name "1997: The Treaty of Irrelevance" and the description "I was once a Hong Kong collector. Now I don't want it anymore, so I handover it someone else.", then it shows audience it is related to Hong Kong, and he/she will start thinking about what's going on. Of course it really depends on audience's knowledge about Hong Kong history. The description is to imply the event of the handover of Hong Kong to China and try to let the audience reflect about the colonial history and the practices, also it is part of my identity as a British Hong Konger.
