What would happen if the temperature of the atmosphere increased by 1.5 degrees?
On a global scale there would be a sea rise of about ten centimeters, the Arctic
Ocean would be without ice in the summer once every hundred years, coral reefs
would decrease by ninety percent, entire areas of the earth would suffer
phenomena of desertification while others would be submerged and erased from
maps, six percent of insects and eight percent of plants would lose their natural
habitat and become extinct.
The increase of 1.5 degrees in 2030 is the limit that was established in the Paris
Agreement on climate change, and reaffirmed in the 2030 Agenda, to try to limit the
damage caused by global warming as much as possible. Many countries have begun
to develop policies aimed at limiting overheating in order to avoid the temperature
increase but, according to many observers, we will reach the increase of 1.5 degrees
by 2025. A greater temperature increase in 2030 would lead to far worse
consequences than those previously described.
The work aims to represent the dissolution of humanity which, like glaciers, would
end if the temperature were to rise to unsustainable levels for the planet
The sculpture was digitally modeled and then printed in several pieces with a 3D
printer. After being assembled it was finished and painted with acrylic paint
