(This work is a part of a project and photography series)
The woods represent everyone’s heritage, a part of our lives that flows and accompanies who lives here, who passes through, who loves the mountain, but also who is not in close contact with it but benefits from this source of oxygen.
“Something unexpected” happened, now a year ago, but only in the power of the carrier of devastation.
On 29thOctober 2018 the woods of Val di Fiemme (Trentino- Italy)of the neighbouring valleys and regions, changed when a wind at a speed of almost 200 km/h – the Vaia Storm – hit them. It tore off two millions of cubic meters of trees and the landscape it left has crying and funereal aspect. The trees on the ground in the throes of death change the scenery and make us catch a different way of reading and seeing what was hidden behind the habit.
We are here is a project (and the photography series) dedicated to Territory and to a deep reflection about what will brought and will bring about a new way of living the mountain, the climate change. This is a theme and a current and preponderant cause that adds gravity and trigger the so-called “extraordinary” but almost daily events.
This is a non-tale of what happened. This is the wait of what we lived and are still living. This is a reflection on what is natural and what is not, on how man converses with nature before and after the irreparable harm, on the meaning of taking some time to comprehend and when everything all around is call in a loud voice for a quick and aggressive solution.
A falling tree becomes a dramatic chance of re-consider the man-nature relationship, the mountain economy, the future and the past. It gets us to measure ourselves with our neighbours. It reminds us that the territorial boundaries are often political, not natural; that they are the legacy of our ancestors’ choices. It gives us the responsibility for our choices, our decisions, our actions.
A visual work focused on the aesthetics for the creation of a new image and a new point of view on “Landscape”.
This piece of art is not a documentation, but a possibility of meditate on own position, on the management of the community life reflecting on the global one.
The delimited and contemplated territory has managed by Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme since 1111 – they control the forests and wood of Valle di Fiemme and of some neighbouring areas.
The concept of We are here is the result of a collective work by Roberta Segata, Virginia Sommadossi and Elisa Di Liberato.
