A White Bleached Bay in an attempt by the artist to evoke a sense of urgency in protecting our oceans around the world. The white blanket of mold, along with the accompanying decrepit colours paints a bleak picture of the state of coral reefs around the world, more specifically the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, if nothing is done to preserve them.
The white blanket with sparse pockets of colour communicates the artist’s imagination of the future devoid of colour and vibrance that reefs provide to the ocean, as well as to criticise the over-consumption and pollution of mankind that will bring about this fate.
A White Bleached Bay serves not only as a criticism to the decadent consumerist nature of society today, but also as a call to action to prevent the reefs from becoming a barren wasteland devoid of life.
