One of the greatest gifts in life is quality time shared with best
girlfriends. The bonds of friendship we build in our childhood, that continue
throughout life, teach us lessons, which help us grow and form new
relationships during our lives. In addition, those special experiences can
later sustain us in difficult times. The memories born from sharing a laugh, a
secret, a swim, or a sunbathe together on the grass, on a riverbank are
exclusive to those who were present in that moment. This work enables us to
imagine what these women shared together and evokes within us, our own childhood
memories spent with friends. The fungi growing on a Berlin artist's tombstone,
reminded me of bubbles, which I then incorporated with a found black and white
photograph of Jewish women in Lublin, in the late 1920s. The yellow embroidery
on the tombstone, on the women's clothing, and in their reflections in the water, hint to the yellow
Star-of-David worn by the Jews during the Holocaust.
