Stattoo

Stattoo is the new photographic project of Mimmi Moretti which has sprung from a project already started in 2015 and which today is revisited with a different and in some ways more modern key of reading. It is a project dedicated to the Stadio dei Marmi (Marble Stadium) in Rome. Men who stand out, like ancient imperial heroes, against an intentionally greyed out sky, as if Zeus from up high were about to bring on thunder. The peculiar natural lighting lends to the statues a chiaroscuro found in Caravaggio paintings, and highlights all their powerful physicality and strength. The story that those statues tell today to those who observe these new images is a completely new one. In fact, not only are their powerful and vigorous bodies depictedin the photographs, but also the tattoos which have been drawn (over the print) onto those bodies, as if they were real bodies in flesh and blood, by the expert ?hands? of some of the most renowned Milanese tattoo artists.
