Adorned by a garment titled "Rational Dressing" by designer Caitlin Griffin, model August Atkinson leaps into the air to capture a fierce pose. The garment is inspired by trapeze artist Charmion who displayed acts of defiance against traditional womens' dress of the early 20th century by wearing masculine trapeze costumes. Charmion worked in solidarity with the rational dress movement, in which women were encouraged to wear garments that allowed freedom of movement. Griffin created this piece to explore the courage of Charmion's trapeze costumes to break from the expectations of womens' garments at the time. I captured model August Atkinson mid-air with a striking look to further communicate the determination of Charmion.
