I take a deep breath and descend into another atmosphere, I am exploring the deep blue waters of Jupiter. In this liquid element I am like an astronaut, free from the rules of gravity. Although it feels like another world, the location of this Jupiter is on Planet Earth in the Gulf Stream of Florida. I prepare myself for the encounter I am about to have with ancient life forms. Evolving over 400 million years the Sharks quickly rise up from the depths to greet us. Swimming gracefully around us these majestic creatures are essential for the health of marine ecosystems. Endangered they struggle to survive humans. A top predator, it is still vulnerable to our destruction of the Ocean and our incessant killing of it for shark fin soup. In the era of extinction encounters like these are ethereal. 90% of sharks populations have disappeared in the last 100 years. This surreal series of sharks swimming within the clouds merges my air element photography with the shark encounter. It reflects the mood I felt from the possibility of them vanishing. Unless we act now to protect them they will become a memory, like a dream.
