Red Coral
Coral reefs are important ecosystems that provide immense biodiversity and protection for shorelines. However, they are severely threatened by human activities such as pollution, overfishing and climate change. In response, corals develop defense mechanisms. Some species show increased resilience to rising water temperatures and increasingly acidic oceans. Researchers are also discovering that corals can improve their chances of survival through symbiotic relationships with algae and microbes. Despite these adaptations, pressure on corals remains high and comprehensive conservation measures are needed to secure their future.
