Recomposition No. 15, a significant piece of my latest project, "New York City New BAUHAUS," delves into the profound influence of European trans-artistic movements in the United States. The Oculus series, which differs from my earlier pure photographic works, investigates the intersection of architecture and art. In this collection, the photograph is not the primary focus but an essential element of the compositions, providing recognizable touch points to the world.
Recomposition No. 15, which deconstructs the Santiago Calatrava-designed landmark building at the World Trade Center Hub, reveals geometrical forms that echo the BAUHAUS movement. The BAUHAUS style, a crucial trans-artistic movement created in Germany in 1919, finds an unexpected connection with Calatrava's style, which draws inspiration from Antonio Gaudà and Art Nouveau. Yet, a connection through basic geometries emerges when removing the building's overall structure, illuminating the evolution of artistic movements and sparking intrigue about the interplay of different artistic styles.
Recomposition No. 15 mirrors the intricate layers of culture, humanity, and urban space that define the Oculus landmark. Its unique architecture, a testament to the technology and understanding of humanity at specific times, has transformed the urban space, now serving as a memorial, observation area, and meeting spot. My piece beckons the audience to delve into the human experiences that have molded this space, reminding us that despite adversity, there is always room for growth and transformation. I aim to stir curiosity about the untold narratives of the urban space and foster a vision of a future where art and architecture collaborate to construct a better world for all.
