POLI-PTYCHE (2022)
From the greek etymology poly- "many" and ptychē "fold".
In history related to paintings, very often depicting holy images.
Who are we if not a part of a dream in the eyes of the other?
In this polyptych, consisting of 5 panels of 50x150 cm each, Claire Clelia Baldo and Piero Viti work with four eyes and four hands on the portrait/self-portrait. Between painting and photography, dreaminess and reality, they portray themselves in a play of reflections, opposites and complementarities.
For several years they have been exploring the theme of the duo and the double through different photographic scenarios. Playing with light, colour and movement, an infinite game, born from the darkest depths, like that unfathomable and ineluctable matter of which dreams and nightmares are made.
A tribute to all those who have crossed borders, mirrors and to all the stories and arts that have cradled and shaped our unconscious, our dreams, our hopes and that have made us adventurers of elsewhere.
The name LABOTIV originated from the artistic complicity between Claire Clelia Baldo and Piero Viti. Through this nominal identity, they created several photographic series together, bringing their own approaches into dialogue as they explored contemporary interdisciplinary artistic realities, working in a dialectical way on the photographic diptych.
