Pietà is a work that references the classical image of Jesus lying in the arms of Mary. In this image Mary is instead holding a beheaded sex doll. The machines humans create are in a way a form of still birth - they are never alive in the sense humans are. At the same time we are constantly pushing the boundaries of the anthropomorphic creations we bring to life. In that sense humans try to act like god, we try to create robots in the image of ourselves. But does this mainly lead to suffering like the pains or Mary?
This is part of the series A Doll’s House, a multimedia exhibition including a photo series of self portraits from 2022 and a video installation. The photographs and video depict me and the AI sex doll Harmony. The series is inspired by famous motifs from art history as well as Greek mythology, where questions regarding human nature, art and technology are highlighted.
In the series, Harmony and I mirror each other. We are dressed the same, have the same hair color and facial expressions. The similarities highlight the uncanny aspects of Harmony the robot at the same time as it humanizes her. At first glance she looks like a friendly twin.
