In the blink of an eye, from paper tissues, I create would-be statues. They are about 15 cm tall. Imminent. They only last as long as the length of a camera-click.
I play with proportion, taking close-up pictures of the statue, in contrast with people or architectural elements which stand at the right distance in the background, in so doing the result is a landscape portrait in which the statues take on great dimension and, at first sight, realism.
In being photographed, the statues alter both the visual and the mental spaces of the urban contexts in which they lie.
The component of chance is crucial; in fact I give the tissues a general shaping yet it is this absence of control which allows, now and then, the marvel to occur.
The project pays a homage to classical culture, to the timeless beauty and allure it is endowed with; it also depicts the precariousness and evanescence of certain Contemporary Art: the use of degradable material in sculpture in not infrequent.
