"Notturni" is a work in progress
started two years ago.
The project stems from the attraction
towards some particular lighting situations in urban environments at night.
Immediately I understood that the intention of the shot was to be
non-documentative, but expressive. From the observation of my own photographs
in the first part of the research work I realized that of the landscape to
which I was facing, I actually emotionally perceived only a few portions. The
reality datum from which I started, the landscape, was necessary, since the
inspiring subject was contained in it, but some elements had to be removed in
order to activate my language.
In this way, post-production work is
fundamental in order to subtract and use darkness in a process that preserves
the attention for the tones, the framing, the light, the sharpness (which are
part of my photographic background) to which I stand, however, a second
creative moment of re-elaboration of reality.
The elements of the urban landscape thus
become used to reveal an intimate vision, while the place itself has no
significance. In fact, it is abstracted and reduced to the skeleton from which
the perceived atmosphere comes to life.
