”no.09 Landscape Road” is a single excerpt from Into The Underworld / Ngā Mahi Rarowhenua - a series of 11 orthographic works that trace the lava caves of Auckland - an unseen, dilapidated landscape devastated by a century of rapid urban sprawl. Reduced to urban myth, their existence is not common knowledge and ongoing discoveries are unreported by the developers that destroy them. Using terrestrial LiDAR instruments applied in archaeological surveying and criminal forensics, the project attempts an empirical approach to bring something fictionalised and forgotten into the domain of public visibility, casting light on something to be recognised, preserved and managed as a shared heritage.
