MERMAID – REDEFINED FREEDOM

MERMAID is an underwater photography series that captures a women’s first dip into the ocean after being caged inside for weeks due to Spain's lockdown restrictions in 2021. 

"I am running. I am running so fast that I feel my feet whirling up the sand. The sun is out, still low on the horizon but strong enough to sparkle up the ocean's surface. There wasn't any sparkle in my life in the past weeks. The wind is soft and warm. I am almost there, still running, preparing my body for the jump. Jumping. Becoming one with the mysteriously soaked nature of the aquatic universe – finally freeing my body and soul again."

Does freedom perhaps no longer mean being able to do everything but doing the little things again?
