"Matrice" is the result of a process in which, by a strange somato-psychic mechanism, matter and spirit, memory and sensations are mobilised.
Indistinctly mixed, body and matter are transformed into homogeneous composite beings, which raises a sensitive antinomy: is it the mud sculpture that is in gestation of this being or is it the work of clay that is born from the artist's hands?
"In the same gesture, man and the work reveal the earth in its fault, the fault in man; art remains what puts man and the world in tension" says Henri Maldiney, so it is in a gesture that replicates that of creation of origin that this piece is inscribed; my body having made itself visible like a re-advent to the world in the hollow of this earthen crater shaped by my hands, which has become the matrix that shelters my own body.
As I see it, the essence of creation lies in the repetition of the original gesture: uniting, linking, assembling. This work is an attempt to embody this in a sensitive way, evoking for the spectator the sensations in which we are born, in other words the world before language, which is necessary for aesthetic experience.
