A definition of Maelström could be a bath that is specially designed so that the water moves round and round; or perhaps a powerful circular current of water, usually the resulting of conflicting tides; or maybe a flow in a circular current of liquids; or even any body of water having a more or less circular motion caused by its flowing in an irregular channel; or is as well any turbulent confusion; indeed a violently confused or dangerously agitated state of mind and emotion.
All these senses were at the very beginning of this project, the idea was to produce a series of images of dancers using water. I wanted to intervene the black and white photos taken of their naked dancing bodies with strokes of water mixed with acrylic paint colours. I needed to explore unfathomable mingling layers of this maelström of surfaces. The result of these trails is displayed on eleven photos for the exhibition here presented.
