LONG ISLANDS CIRCUS
The original photography of this work Long Islands Circus was taken in 2009 in Japan, in Hokkaido, in a field of lupine flowers with a digital Leica offering me scope and flexibility. During the pandemic crisis and the confinement experience, I have decided to work on several creations that would bring me fresh air and a closer link to nature. Traveling back to the past and reminding me my trips to Hokkaido, while I was living in Japan, were a way to be again among trees, rivers, animals and flowers, far away from the urban organization. The lupine flowers are in theory pink-salmon. I decided to dive into a dominant blue impressionism and to add a major tone of scarlet red, on a base of linen grey. Compared to the more serene work Long Island # Blue (similar series), the red is adding contrasts - reinforcing also the impression of the montanous circus - and also a more dramatic touch. A reflection, some way, of the dramatic 2020.
