This photograph is part of my work entitled "Colors Suspended in Time. Geometries of an Island," a work I made during the summer of 2020 with the aim of telling the story of the uniqueness of the island of Burano (known worldwide for the bright colors of its houses) from a different point of view than the one commonly used to immortalize the beauty of this island. Starting from the influence of the atmospheres of the works of De Chirico and the photographs of Ghirri and Fontana, I moved my steps to tell the story of the unique relationship between urban space and man that characterizes Burano, trying to convey to the viewer the deep connection between the shimmering colors of the houses and the island's inhabitants through photographs in which the human component, although physically absent in most of the shots, is manifested through the presence on the scene of everyday objects, such as shoes, bicycles, chairs, umbrellas and cloths hung in the wind. In creating this narrative, I have tried to infuse my photographs with that sense of suspension in time that I breathed while walking through the alleys of this island, streets that exude history, lives lived, habits established over the years, a place that has partly managed to remain detached from the rest of the world.
