In this photograph the vision was to have the model hold burning money, to show the act of defacing a real American dollar bill. The flame represents destruction, and the bill represents the greed and thirst for excessive wealth to be the cause of unnecessary destruction. In many instances on earth people take action against humanity, against the welfare of the earth to obtain power and money.
The Indonesian rainforest is being logged at an extensive rate to plant palm oil plantations. The fastest way to log the rainforest is through burning. In 2019, 8578 kilometers of rainforest was burned and cleared for palm oil plantations to take place. During this process animals are killed and burned alive. The orangutan population has declined by 50%.
A large amount of this palm oil is exported to, used and redistributed by corporate giants such as Nestle, Unilever and Conagra. In 2017 in Indonesia alone the exported palm oil reached 20.7 billion dollars.
It is in our power to change this destructive pattern by avoiding buying palm oil at the grocery store and to demand change from corporate giants as their promises tend to be empty.
This is only one example of excessive greed causing destruction but there are many more. I have hope for our future, we can find peace within ourselves and we can restore change.
