FLASHBACK
“Vultus index animi est.” (Face is (eyes are)
the mirror of soul). Eyes reflect our inner world and feelings, it is
practically impossible to lie or hide our true emotions. Both positive and
negative feelings and reactions to either expected or unexpected events can be
seen in our eyes. The surrounding environment and interiors where we live or
work can contribute in evoking diverse or even contradictory emotions.
Flashback is
the process of recalling, it helps to reflect on the experienced emotions and
events in order to be prepared for similar experience, to avoid or cope better
with negative emotions in the future. Nothing is entirely negative; every
experience contains positive and negative elements in different quantities.
Flashback enables us to find even the tiniest positive element in a negative
experience. “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so” (W.
Shakespeare, “Hamlet”).
The eyes on
the images belong to me or to my family members or exceptionally to people who
have had some kind of a role in my life without being related to me. Some of
the photographed spaces were directly linked to the events that caused the
depicted feelings, but in some occasions the chosen environments possess an
appearance potential to evoke analogues emotions.
The depicted
emotions are universal and most of us experience these feelings once in a while
during the lifetime. The events and circumstances causing similar feelings can
differ. Every viewer can reflect upon own experience and try to recall the time
and situations that caused the emotions.
