Hunger. Visions. Memory of fancies, deceits and sweet treats, while waves of hunger sweep over the bodies in the landscape. Wealthy Georgians were known for their extravagance and "high taste." For fun and fancy, food was shaped into things one would never eat and these decorative food items were called deceits. Meanwhile the people of London starved on the streets. Convicts in Sydney Cove may have seen deceits through London windows, and I imagine them dreaming of these delights, while they chew on their ever reducing rations of salted meat and bread. Their collective vision is a hand in the sky removing a cloche - revealing a wagon load of fancy food from home.
