I shot this photo to partecipate a the 1st edition of a prize organised by Terna S.p.A., the Italian transmission system operator. Interpreted the theme "Driving energy" by imagining a modern Madonna and Child "charging" her infant while charging her electric car on a summer night. A dual transmission of energy, one biological, the other artificial in an ideal symbolic, evolutionary and technological continuity. It amused me to decontextualise this image that goes back to prehistoric civilisations and re-propose it in a cinematic and "street" key between Pasolini, Nan Goldin and Crewdson: a young mother with an attentive gaze who produces and dispenses milk according to the baby's needs, a bit like Terna does to maximize energy use.
In this case though, the photo is not entirely "human": the background, half column, half sidewalk, half car, leaves I in fact generated them with the "outpaint" tool of DALL-E 2 the TTI-based artificial intelligence algorithm. I intentionally kept the inconsistencies of the car as machine's signature.
