This photograph is part of a series called « Experimentation n°4 ».
It specifically explores the relationship between clothing, the body, and the gaze, focusing on the deconstruction of gender norms and the reappropriation of female representation. The body, as the central subject of photography, serves as a source of interrogation, expression, and reflection. This dynamic prompts the artist to reflect deeply on the interactions between image, body, and clothing, and to explore new artistic avenues.
In this experiment, her investigation and questioning enabled her to transpose and rework a well-known cliché: the wet garment, which evokes the hyper-sexualization of the female body. She used widely recognized iconography, ranging from Sophia Loren's famous wet shirt scene in the film « Boy on a Dolphin » to numerous fashion and pornographic photographs.
This work is based on her practical experience, which consists of a series of photographic experiments in which she manipulated her own body while wearing garments she had created. These experiments allowed her to explore the possibilities offered by this dynamic interaction. In this practical research, the constraint of clothing is addressed through the social constraint of the « male gaze ».
Ultimately, her work is not only a research project questioning the male gaze but is essentially a statement, even a claim, as a female artist, photographer, and designer. She seeks to regain control over this social constraint initially imposed on her. This gaze, which influenced her perception of herself, led her to impose a form of censorship on herself, particularly regarding nudity, to avoid this objectifying and sexualizing gaze. This self-censorship had consequences for her photographic approach. By questioning this self-imposed censorship, she seeks to explore new perspectives and assert her vision as a woman and an artist. By taking control of her gaze and choosing how to represent her body, she aims to assert her autonomy and value her individuality.
