In my depiction of Cezanne’s Card Players, I am in a red cocktail dress, signifying the scandalous lady my ex depicted of what would be my existence once we were divorced. Although water is under the bridge now, my soul barely survived the demeaning behavior and comments I endured in this relationship. One day, it was the Aha moment and I picked myself up and decided to move on. Through countless insults I pushed forward finding and knowing my worth. As I look dead into his eyes, I thrust my wedding ring towards him on the table as he continues to call my bluff by blowing smoke in my face. So much representation in the objects behind me: my dreams of travelling with suitcase at my feet, the understandability of my fleeting life is portrayed with the petals I am letting go behind me, the extinguished candle representing a moment gone, the clock representing the limit of life itself. This is one of my favorite images. It represents my ability to pick myself up when I fall.
