"Are icons undermining our independence and individuality? Do they only seem to hold our social structure together or can these key figures be used as a weapon of a counter-movement, as a projection surface for the new goals set, the gods and demigods created by mythology, religion, politics and culture, expose us to danger and fascination in equal measure? (Johannes Wieland)

A stage filled with more than 35 performers* and a large orchestra form the framework for "Ares", the new piece by Johannes Wieland on songs by Richard Strauss, including the "Four Last Songs" based on texts by Hermann Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff.
