Characterized by rawness, and an impromptu live performance of dance painting, this piece serves as a metaphor of connection between women from two islands, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. One an immigrant, another a US citizen, who nevertheless share similar expressions. The dance painting that follows, expresses the same concept of inter-relatedness of the painting elements. The initial hand dance is also an improvisation, and once superposed it illustrates the beauty of how similar but varied we can be as humans.
The resulting 7x4ft painting, which shows islands with a trace of the connection, is part of the performance and designed to also be shown as a painting.
When performance is done at an exhibition or festival, it happens at the flow of traffic (not a stage), with 360 degree audience. Length of action can be adapted from minutes to hours.
