'Stirring Pan' inquires into the function of the human body as a vessel to carry the weight of its own
existence, to endure the drive for its longings; a physical as well as visual
performance where the body works as (re)generator
of energy by producing intramural heat. It is an ultimately internal
esoteric process of transformation which is evident from the outside.
This
work is inspired by god Pan, a god depicted as half man and half goat, a figure
that stands for wildlife; the tenuous balance between primal and cultivated,
and the inspirer of panic, which is the paranoid fear that reduces human beings
to their most animalistic instincts.
The
performer's body is split in two: above the waist is plain skin, while below
the waist it is covered by brown syrup that slowly drifts off. Only two attributes
accompany the body: the horns on the head and a piece of tarpaulin, a rough
brown material attached on the ankles and wrists of the body, standing for the
forceful interaction with the earth.
In
this work, the most predominant element for the performer as well as the
audience, is this, of a biomatic
experience. With the use of breath, the most primary and universal physical
action, the body goes through a trip of physical and visual transformation
reaching out to our primordial and primitive nature.
It
shall be performed in a quiet and intimate space with close proximity between
performer and audience, so that every single detailed movement is being
witnessed by the audience, but also in order for the audience to tune into a
synchronized breathing with the performer.
