YU SIQI "Red" 2024
Performance Art Works
"Red" In today's society, women face
multiple constraints, which not only come from traditional culture and social
norms, but are also reflected in the workplace, family and self-perception. In
today's society, it's not just about the constraints placed on women. As human
beings, we have constraints. Men and women also have different constraints and
pressures. So I created "Red" “Red” is the second part of my
behavioral art performance, which continues the content of “Blue”. I still chose
to express my feelings and thoughts using wool thread. The place I chose is the
roof of a building. At first I wrap my body with the red wool thread. Why did I
use red wool thread in the second part? Red is a color that causes sensations
of dazzle, restlessness, suffocation, fear and bloom. I continue to wrap my
body with the red woolen thread, exploring the relationship between the thread,
my body and a black chair. I tie myself tightly to the black chair. During this
process, my movements may be fast or slow, and sometimes tense. My eyes are
fixed and devoid of light. Why do I use this form of expression? Because in the
first part, "Blue", I talked about the different constraints that
people face during childhood and adolescence. “Red” represents the different constraints
and pressures that society and family impose on young men and women during
youth and adulthood.
