FINJA SANDER - Performance 2020 ( Grunewald, Berlin Germany)
In my performative practice, I always use the same materials, or objects, which establish an ongoing narrative. In 2018, I found this rope with a total length of 120m. It was so massive and lively that, with the time, it became a real subject for me. I performed several times with the rope, more in an experimental way, until the day in march 2020. We had a lockdown in Germany, due to the Coronavirus, so everything was shut down. Because of my self-isolated everyday-life, I had to find strategies, to show my art in a new way. I decided to start working alone again, without any announcement. So I took my rope, and started to walk a self-chosen path in the forest, which I often took for a walk in the past. This spontaneous action turned out as a serious search after new ways of artistic exposure within difficult circumstances. It was a special connection between the working body and the rope, getting even closer, while performing together, without the normal staged dynamic. Through this action I became a little bit more trustful and humble towards my art and my materials.
