FINJA SANDER - Performance 16 (Gustav-Adolf church, Berlin Germany)
In 2019, I luckily got the chance to show a performative work in the Gustav-Adolf church in Berlin, Germany for the first time. The local-community was very open-minded, so I decided to extend my work with the tubes, I worked with, during my residence in Tuscany. Around this period of time, I also did a lot of research about religious iconography and gestures. Especially the expression and representation of the staute of Mary, fascinated me. Very intuitively, I let these images and impressions flow into my performative practice. The outcoming performance piece was a very calm and reverent one, fitting into the sacramental atmosphere. I body and the tubes functioned as a counterpart to the well-known religious institution and habits. It could be seen as a modern interpretation of religious figures and statues.
