In this performance I work with 300 metres of black crepe paper, sculpting pyramids and then hurling out tendrils into the space. I challenge fate and chance to evoke ghosts of past activities and presences. The paper, starting as rolls that evoke streamers used at parties and celebrations, is ominous rather than celebratory. The broad black strips, starting crisp and elegant as an Issue Miyake design in their pleated form, congeal to become an ominous black mass, a dark form with which to cloak and conceal myself. As I draw the papers back towards myself I become engulfed and consumed. In this way I animate the image of ghosting to become a “spirit” presence in my disappearance. The title Delta suggests a flow and a sediment, or a stealth weapon.
